InCrease and SMP client, getting started from scratch

Postby jackrabbit » Sun Jan 18, 2009 1:27 pm

Note: this is a working draft. It will be improved soon.

These are the steps to set up an Intel Mac with the SMP client controlled by InCrease, folding whenever the machine is on.
This FAQ is not for PPC Macs.

• download the latest InCrease (currently 2.4.3)  Select the Universal Binary.
• unzip the downloaded file and put it in your Applications folder
• Put Increase in the dock, if you like
• launch InCrease by double clicking its icon
• Open the menu: InCrease and select Preferences to launch the Preferences window
 • in the tab: New Units enter:
   • User name
   • Team Number (we are 1971)
 • in the tab: Local Group enter or verify these entries:
   • ~/Library/InCrease/unit
   • Start folding at boot time
   • Use CPU count of Actual
 • in the tab: Launch , select
   • Client: fah6
   • verbosity:  enter 9 (makes a verbose log for better debugging)
• In the InCrease main window menu: Tools -> Download fah6 client (if it's grayed out, never mind)
• menu: Tools -> Download qd updates
• menu: Groups -> Create Local Group
• menu: Tools -> Install start at reboot crontab

• At the Stanford F@H download page download the latest SMP client (formerly 6.24, announced at the official forum, now 6.26.3) and put it on your Desktop (important for the next bit)
• open Terminal (in Applications/Utilities), copy the following text and paste it in the window one line at a time (type return in the window afterwards):
chmod u+x Desktop/fah6
cp Desktop/fah6 Library/Application\ Support/InCrease/bin/smp
cp Desktop/fah6 Library/Application\ Support/InCrease/bin
cp Desktop/fah6 Library/InCrease/unit1
• quit Terminal

• apply known work arounds for client bugs
 • fix the /etc/hosts issue

• optional: restore saved WU (only if this is not a clean install)

• Finally, in InCrease, hit Start

InCrease and SMP client, getting started from scratch

Postby jackrabbit » Sun Jun 12, 2016 10:58 am

The above instructions describe how to set up SMP folding using InCrease and v6 folding client and is completely obsolete.

The v6 folding client has been superseded by the v7 client, a complete redesign. The instructions that come with the v7 client should be self-explanatory.
