Hey Kori
It depends on how you start and stop the Client. This should work with any method.

First stop folding.
Run the Terminal Program from Applications > Utilities
into the terminal Window , type cd followed by a space ( but don't hit <return> yet ! )
Then in the finder , Browse to your folding folder , and drag and drop that folder to the terminal window.
Now click on the terminal window and hit <return> .
Now type  ./fah5  -local  -configonly in terminal and hit <return>
This will ask you all the configure options for fah5 , hit <return> for each you want to leave unchanged.
type No to the Greater than 5 MB Question , hit <return>
you can now Quit terminal and then restart folding.

more to follow .....
Wow , That was Quite an Odyssey thru the Search Function  :p
I redid the preceding , if you have more questions , just ask

Pluts :D

I used to think you only needed to do it if a WU showed no point value at all. Now I realize that even if it does, that value may need an update.

nagromme.

I just got a WU that shows no point value...

What exactly are you referencing?

Thanks.

Hi Inigo,

If you are using InCrease, go to your "Tools" menu and select "Download qd updates".
If you are not using InCrease, download qdinfo.dat from this link. It is labeled "Data file, for any system   qdinfo.dat (17K)" and is near the bottom of the page.

Problems with either? Ask again. :)

The thing I watch to see if maybe I need to do the Tools menu and select Download qd updates thing is the Points Per Day . If the PPD is off , I try the update.
( and hope the PPD goes Up ! :p  )

Basically nothing has changed. Most of this only applies to Intel machines anyway. If you have oodles of RAM and high memory bandwidth, go for the QMDs. If you don't or are not inclined to try, leave them aside.

Note that I'm not very knowledgeable in this, so CB or Pluts will have to fill in the details.
The biggest difference between time and space is that you can't reuse time.

According to the 08/05/05 update G5 and G4 now have identical settings. How does this produce Tinkers of my G5 but not on my G4s?

1.  G5s; -advmethods, 5MB ON, -forceasm, -verbosity 9.  1 CLI client per processor.  Right now, with Big Gromacs virtually non-existent, G5s actually do BETTER ppd on Tinkers than Regular Gromacs.

2.  G4s; -advmethods, 5MB ON, -forceasm, -verbosity 9.  1 CLI client per processor.  We all know Tinkers can be slow for these machines.  Pretty self-explanatory.  This setting will yield a Regular Gromac 90% of the time, with an occasional DGromac or 5MB bonus unit thrown in for excitement!

The Pande Group has tweaked the assignment server settings.  Keep in mind that RIGHT NOW Tinker projects are limited to FIVE projects (p638, p697, p1130, p1131, p1132, p1133) that are not timeless Tinkers.  Of those, 4 are coming from one server .143, which is not assigning to OS X.  The other is coming from server .119, which is also not assigning to OS X.  Looking at the timeless Tinker servers, well, they are not assigning to OS X either.  SO, we are currently 100% Tinker free on OS X no matter what the settings used.

Why do you smile... Tinkers run better on my G5 than Gromacs do... ???
Never ask a man what sort of computer he drives. If it's a Mac, he'll tell you. If not, why embarrass him?
