bonus calculation in Increase?, a3 core bonus estimation

Now that Increase supports a3 core WUs natively, an integrated bonus calculator would be really cool. At the moment, I've put LinuxForge's SMP2 calculator in Dashboard on my Mac.

Can you automate this in Increase and offer the results for each relevant unit in a viewable column? I imagine a column for the estimated bonus and a column for estimated total points. They'd show "N/A" for a1 and a2 WUs and "--" before the 1% time stamp.

As a note, InCrease uses qd to get most of the information about the WU. If you hit the "Queue" button, all the info is there. I agree, though, that an extra column would be nice.
The biggest difference between time and space is that you can't reuse time.

Good to notice that this info is already tracked in the queue dump. Thanks for your guidance. So, no calculator necessary. Just requesting a column or two.

bonus calculation in Increase?, a3 core bonus estimation

Postby macmath » Fri Mar 05, 2010 9:41 pm

I'm not sure what Increase did for me, but I didn't get any bonus points until I started using Increase again.  Perhaps I just needed to establish a track record with the new units before I would get bonus points.  I had been just going by the command line.

Thank you, calxalot!

Were you using the same config file when running from the command line? If you were using a different config file, did that file have your passkey in it?

I was using the same config file.  In fact, I had entered a password back before I started using Increase and I haven't said or done anything about a password with Increase.  It might have been that Increase was using better arguments; it seems to be finishing faster now.  I was using:

./fah6 -smp -local -bigadv -verbosity 9

Are you using -bigadv in Increase? Do you have at least an 8-core processor? I've heard -bigadv isn't worth using with any less.

I just let Increase use its default command.

Some history:  I had just let the client run for a few months without paying any attention to it.  Then I noticed that I was getting units that were worth less than 500 points.  So I skim-read the forums and figured out that it was time that I got a password, but not much else.  It was desperation that caused me to drop -advmethods and use -bigadv, but nothing seemed to do any good.  That is why I downloaded and started Increase and just let it work.  I figured that something had changed and I didn't have time to figure it out, and so I better move to something automatic until I had time to learn about the change.

All I have is a two-year old iMac...nothing special...2.4 MHz.

So, by default, Increase uses -advmethods and not -bigadv. That's why your units are completing faster than before. You shouldn't try running -bigadv on your iMac. That's another reason you weren't getting bonuses before; you weren't finishing units before the preferred deadline.

Thanks for the information.  I just have the time to check in now and then and see how the folding is going, but I don't have time to keep up with what works how.  Originally when I started Increase less than two weeks ago, the Average pph was at 8.  This past Thursday it was up to 16; now it is over 22!!  That is another part of what really surprised me.

Average download rate 714.224 KB/s (u=4); upload rate 835.696 KB/s (u=4)
Performance fraction 0.744321 (u=4)
Average pph: 22.584, ppd: 542.02, ppw: 3794.2, ppy: 197968
Average bonus pph: 54.584, ppd: 1310.02, ppw: 9170.1, ppy: 478471
Average alternate pph: 22.412, ppd: 537.88, ppw: 3765.2, ppy: 196455
Average alternate bonus pph: 58.788, ppd: 1410.92, ppw: 9876.4, ppy: 515324
