GPU Folding List, Add your name, if you fold with GPUs!

Postby Phantom » Mon Sep 21, 2009 10:17 pm

Just trying to start a list of resources that new members and visitors could contact if they were trying to fold with their GPU...

Please respond to this topic along with any details concerning your GPU folding...  Date Started GPU folding?  What's your set-up?  Settings?  "Watch out for" Guidance?  etc.

Just think about what might help a new GPU folder get up and running smoothly.

Thanks!

GPU Folding List, Add your name, if you fold with GPUs!

Postby klasseng » Thu Sep 24, 2009 9:51 pm

I have two machines doing GPU folding.

1. Dell workstation with:
- a single NVIDIA GeForce 9600GSO, 512KB of VRAM
- Command line interface (CLI) GPU client
- Windows XP OS

2. Custom built box with:
- quad-core Intel processor
- four (4) NVIDIA GeForce 9600GSO's with 512KB VRAM each
- four (4) instances of the CLI GPU client
- one instance of the Windows CLI SMP client
- Windows Vista 64 bit OS

Edited to correct typo, 9600GSO's, not 9800GSO

Think you have an error there, or I missed the 9800gso being released somewhere...

I have a similar setup, twin 9800gt's, running systray clients, reluctantly under vista x64.
We can't solve our problems by using the same thinking that we used to create them.

GPU Folding List, Add your name, if you fold with GPUs!

Ubuntu 9.04 on a Gigabyte Mobo, 4GB with Q6600 CPU. Just added a Zotac GTx 275 for GPU Folding.  Had a few bumps getting it up and running mostly self induced.
When run without SMP folding seems to take approx. 10% of single CPU depending on SMP WU this either maxes out the box of just tops it up.

Cheers

Been running GPU folding for a couple of weeks now.

Initially results were not impressive ppd wise. Over the last week it seemed to have really kicked into gear getting the 5..6k PPD I was hoping for.    :D   Looks like the delays were returning completed and getting next one. Does about a % per minute on some projects  :woot:

InCrease 2.4.3 used to monitor the folding from the Mac seems to be unable to read the GPU units incorrectly bouncing between "passed expected" and the wrong % competed. It can read the log files for the correct % if needed.  Has no trouble with the CPU units.

Unfortunately the cpu has picked up a couple of older a1 core WU so that took the shine off.

Ho hum thats folding for you, win some lose some.

InCrease 2.5.1 seems to be doing better at tracking the GPU units.

Upgrade first seek support after..

I fold myself on my BFG GTX260 that I Overclocked to maxcore settings
650MHz core
1404MHz Shaders
1250MHz Memory (2500 combined)

Its quick! :)
Some see things as they are and ask why, I see things that have not been and ask why not?
